Raffaele Gambardella grew up in what Italians call la città del sole - the city of the sun: Napoli. Having the Bay of Naples in his backyard, the sea was an integral part of his life, from the food it provided, to the recreation it offered, to the imagination it inspired. Although he spent a lot of time on the water, through beach days and vacation boat
rentals or on the boats of friends, owning his own remained a dream.
Fast forward to the 1980s - Raffaele is living in New York city, going to college while working in restaurants in order to pay tuition. Eventually, he married his American bride, left the hospitality industry, and raised a family on Long Island - he couldn’t be far from the sea, after all.
